Program Partners
Arts House
Arts House is a City of Melbourne contemporary arts initiative. Each year Arts House presents a curated program of contemporary art featuring performances, exhibitions, live art, installations and cultural events.
Arts House operates as a multi-dimensional resource hub for artists – producing, programming, devising, supporting and funding. Work is presented across two sites, Arts House, North Melbourne Town Hall and Arts House, Meat Market.
Arts House values arts and culture that help create a world where people are actively engaged, aware and empowered to participate, politically and culturally, to make positive change.
Dancehouse
Dancehouse exists to advance independent contemporary dance in Australia through its program of research, training and performance. Dancehouse creates an environment where creative risk, independent career paths, collaborative relationships and diverse practice and presentation can flourish. Dancehouse is also a crucial link to a network of movement practices, artists and organisations in Australia and internationally.
Dancehouse's engagement in Dance Massive Melbourne seeks to bridge a gap in professional development for independent artists by providing an opportunity to extend the life of works past initial presentation by exposing them to new audiences and international presenters. Â We characterise Australian dance by its international radiation, rather than a geographic boundary. Â
Dancehouse's purpose as a presenter is to highlight new and existing independent dance work that challenges conventions, is audacious, complicated and sometimes difficult to digest; that polarises opinion and asks audiences and practitioners to question their expectations of contemporary dance performance and expand their view.
Malthouse Theatre
Malthouse Theatre is the resident company and curator of The C.U.B. Malthouse, a three theatre facility located in the Southbank arts precinct, central Melbourne. The company produces and curates a broadly defined program conceived and created in collaboration with performers, writers, directors, designers, choreographers, composers, audio & visual artists – a contemporary theatre where the combined possibilities of all the theatre arts are offered centre stage. The company continually regenerates its repertoire and creative process through collaborations and partnerships, often co-commissioning and co-producing work with niche groups from the independent sector alongside major performing arts companies and international Festivals. Â
Malthouse Theatre productions are frequently presented nationally and internationally - in recent years, the company has been presented by the Holland Festival, the Vienna Festival, the Barbican, the Auckland Festival, the NZ Festival, the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre, and twice by the Edinburgh International Festival. In 2009, it’s coproduction with Company B of Ionesco’s Exit the King was reproduced on Broadway where the original creative team were nominated for four Tony Awards, winning Geoffrey Rush the Tony for Best Actor.   Â
Malthouse Theatre has programmed contemporary dance in each of its bi-annual theatre seasons since 2005 and in 2009 extended its commitment through a new dance commissioning program. For 2011’s Dance Massive, Malthouse Theatre is delighted to be co-presenting two works with our great colleagues, Chunky Move, and for the first time with Melbourne’s BalletLab, and Sydney choreographer Narelle Benjamin.
